38: Wash me, Please.
Sometimes, I get so used to the fog on the window that I forget it’s there.
The haze that blocks clear vision becomes part of the landscape and I stop remembering that there is a remedy to the blur.
I get accustomed to the rapid pace, the drone of 24 hour news, the expectation of posts that demand attention, and the circular rhythm of my own inner drill Sargent who barks commands related to the “to do” list.
I forget that the problem is not the window — or even the vision — the problem is that I have forgotten that I have the power to clean the window.
Today: Wash a Window
This doesn’t require major planning with three bids to clean every pane of glass in the house.
It’s Lent — time for the simple action done with great love — foregoing the lie of multi-tasking — just one simple action to clear the murk that masks the view
More often than not, the vision that needs clearing rests on the bridge of my nose. The lens through which I see the world has collected the remnants of the life I live…a bit of dust, the salt from the tears of yesterday, the quick swipe of my hand, the strain of hours before a screen, the pondering of a second of beauty, the looks received and those given.
my vision clouded by what I don’t realize is present….I need some help to remember that something else is possible

It’s Lent.
Pull out the Windex and a cloth (really — a real cloth)
Spray it…wipe it dry
And look again…
It’s Lent
Wipe off the grime that clouds the window to the soul
and see what is before you that you have been missing lately
beneath the clutter of too-full days — just a moment of quiet
behind the winter grime — a certain kind of beauty in bare branches
after the cleaning has opened the window — a clean possibility where shadows of leftover days have given way
beyond what has clouded my way…the Lenten journey invites.

We begin now…and how, on this First Friday of Lent,
shall we fast?
“This is the fasting that I wish:
Releasing those bound unjustly,
uniting the thongs of the yoke;
Setting free the oppressed,
breaking every yoke;
Sharing your bread with the hungry,
sheltering the oppressed and the homeless;
Clothing the naked when you see them,
and not turning your back on your own.
Then,
your light shall break forth like the dawn,
and your wound shall be quickly healed”
Isaiah 58
It’s amazing what a little windex can do
WASH a WINDOW
(no…really…wash a window…
not every pane in the house…
wash A window…)
