We Believe

And, Jesus said, “Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they said to him.
Then he said, “Let it be done for you according to your faith.”
Matthew 9

Aware of the complexities of our times in the midst of Texts, Tweets, Posts and Pod casts, it can seem that our prayer is more urgent than in another time in history.

We have the same promises from God, the same challenges of darkness, the same brightness of faith, the same tools and the same invitation…if only, we believe.

Every Advent, I promise myself that this will be the one that has all the joy and none of the chaos — if I just put all the needs carefully scheduled into the digital planner, it will accomplish my objectives of Advent tranquility. And then I remember.

We are celebrating the season of the Incarnation — God’s entrance into the world. And the way that it all happened tells us something…if only we have eyes to see and are willing to have it done for us according to our faith.

If anything, the birth of Jesus was a mess. Big chaos — nothing planned, no strategic outline, no business plan, no key objectives, no digital evaluation with immediate feedback on benchmarks. Mary’s unexpected pregnancy threw her family tribe into chaos. Joseph had only a dream (and his faith) as validation.

They had what we have — the promises of God and a commitment to make our actions witness to our faith. To be, by our very lives, the profession of faith. It was messy and unclear and did not have eloquence. It was without justice and peace and was not clearly outlined or mutually supported by all of those in leadership.

And, they didn’t have time to rest or reflect on the journey…they had to just trust in the next right step….and then they had to take it.

Sounds like we are doing just fine this Advent. Following in the footsteps that lead us to the Star.
